Chiche 10 K

Las morcillas nomá !!!

It’s like having a new signing – that’s Mixu Paatelainen’s view on Fabian Yantorno, who week by week is demonstrating that he is moving towards full fitness for the first time since joining Hibernian in the summer. Yantorno has had to battle back from serious injury, but currently shares the leading scorer mantle for the Hibs reserve side alongside Steven Pinau, and both are players the Hibs manager sees as being vital to his first team in the coming months.

Former Gretna start Yantorno has been allowed a long run in the reserves as the manager took a conscious decision not to rush him back to first team action until he was ready: “Fabian is definitely getting back to the player we knew we had, he is looking better every week and is scoring regularly for the reserves. He came on at Love Street and I don’t think lost the ball once, so he is certainly coming up to full fitness now and will be an important player for us – it’s almost like a new signing having him available for the first team.

“We know we can play him in the midfield or we can play him up front, in midfield he has that attacking mindset and can score goals making him a very useful player. Steven Pinau has also been scoring a lot of goals for the reserves recently - he is another player who comes from a football background that is completely different to ours. It takes a bit of time to get into the way we play but he has been doing that, he has played quite a few games for the reserves and is getting used to scoring regularly. His work-rate is always fantastic while he has good strength and is pretty decent in the air. He has a few weaknesses but is working hard on those also – he has not yet started a first-team game for us but as long as he keeps working hard that will come soon I’m sure.”

Hibernian go into this weeks Clydesdale Bank Premier League match against Inverness knowing that they face opponents who are hurting, the manager admitting that meeting Craig Brewster’s side a week after their heavy defeat at Ibrox is far from ideal. Not that it has changed the preparation for the game in the slightest, as the Hibernian aim this week will be the same as ever, to try and wrestle immediate control of the game: “We will be hoping for an early goal this week as we always do, it certainly helps when you score first and as early in the game as possible. It will be difficult, they will be compact and work all the harder at the back after their result last week. Our job this week is to concentrate on passing the ball regardless of what they do.

“I saw Inverness in the league cup at Falkirk and they certainly battle for every ball, they work hard and base their game on the counter-attack, so we must be on our toes even when we have the ball our defenders must always be aware and alert and not fall asleep at the back when we are on the attack. As long as our strikers are sharp and the movement is crisp and decisive then we should do well.

”One aspect of the Hibernian attacking formation is support for the midfield, with the manager looking for more from his full-backs in that area and the final third: “I encourage our full-backs to get forward all the time, as if they push on into midfield and the final third then it pushes our opponents defensive midfielder further back into the final third and we would rather play there than anywhere else. The full backs give cover to the midfield as well should there be any holes there, it is an aspect of the game that we are constantly working on and seeking to improve.”
